I woke up this morning to find one solitary download had happened since Episodes 1–3 went live.
I could see from my other blog that one of my regular readers had sampled Episode 1, responding to a shameless promotional post I’d written. One listener was, I suppose, better than no listeners, and my long-standing reader (and dare I say, virtual friend) was very complimentary about what he’d heard.
Still, I’d hoped for more of an instant impact.
We’d had a few more downloads by the time I got to work. It’s a surreal feeling, heading into the daily grind when you’ve technically become a ‘podcaster.’ I was almost a bit annoyed that I still had to turn up to work, but given that the daily grind is largely the inspiration for the show, it would be somewhat self-sabotaging to quit. Plus, the podcast is currently costing me money rather than making it, so I very much still need the job to continue paying the mortgage.
The stats have trickled in slowly all day. Ben was equally as underwhelmed as I was.
Somehow, though, we seem to be finishing the day on 100 downloads.
Apparently, that’s quite a big number for a debut podcast on its first day of existence. So, Ben and I should be pretty happy.
Alas, we tend to be a bit ‘glass half empty’ about these kinds of things. It’s terrible for our personal lives, but possibly great for future episodes.
